Looking After Your Skin With Our Four Favourite Superfoods

Four favourite superfoods

Superfoods are packed with nutritious minerals and vitamins that can help your body cut the risk of heart disease, cancer and diabetes.

They also give you important nutrients required to keep your skin healthy. Vitamins in superfoods reduce irritation and inflammation, repair damage and keep your skin looking firm and youthful.

Some of the best nutrients for your skin are; vitamins A to E, zinc, potassium, fatty acids and protein.

You can find superfoods in fish, dairy products and plant based fruits and vegetables. Here are some of our favourites:

Avocado

Avocado has lot of nutrients that help your skin stay healthy. You’ll get the benefits of vitamins B5, B6, B9, vitamin C, E and K, as well as potassium and zinc.

You can eat avocado with a salad, mashed on toast with egg or in guacamole. If you don’t like the taste you can always use it to make a facemask by combining it with oatmeal, honey and/or yogurt.

Beetroot

This root vegetable has lots of vitamins and minerals. It also adds colour to your plate and it’s low in calories. It contains Vitamins B6, B9, and C, as well as magnesium, protein, iron and potassium.

Garlic

The great benefit of garlic is its anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. Garlic is said to help your body fight off colds and flu and reduce blood pressure.

Acne sufferers should try garlic to reduce swelling and inflammation. You can rub spots with garlic, take supplements, eat it raw or use it in your everyday cooking.

Eggs

Eggs are not only versatile, but they are full of protein, minerals and vitamins. People used to think too many eggs caused cholesterol, but they only raise the good cholesterol (HDL) in your body, not bad cholesterol.

The protein and amino acids in eggs help with the cell regeneration of collagen and elastin which keeps your skin firm and supple.

You can eat eggs boiled, fried, scrambled or poached. You can add them to salads or use them to make French or Spanish omelettes.

Make sure to incorporate these superfoods in your menu.
